Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the maps, identifying key changes such as the conversion of the track into a road and the introduction of new facilities like solar panels and a camping field. However, the description is occasionally imprecise. For example, stating that the fruit and vegetable sections 'remained unchanged' is inaccurate, as the map shows these areas were replaced by a camping field and solar panels. Additionally, the description of the barn relocation is slightly confusing. While the main trends are captured, the report would benefit from more precise spatial referencing and a clearer distinction between what was removed and what was added to achieve a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs detailing specific changes. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Furthermore', and 'In contrast' are used to guide the reader. However, the flow is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. For instance, the transition 'Apart from this' is used to introduce a new section, but the connection between the ideas within the paragraphs could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression of information feels slightly disjointed due to the repetitive sentence structures.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing for the description of map features. You use terms like 'amenities', 'identical', and 'converted' appropriately. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'bygone era' (which is overly dramatic for a 1950 map) and 'which are remained unchanged' (grammatical error affecting lexical accuracy). The range is somewhat limited, and you rely on basic descriptors. To improve, try to incorporate more precise geographical vocabulary, such as 'transformed into', 'replaced by', or 'situated in the vicinity of'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples include 'which is build for holiday cottage' (should be 'built'), 'which are available on the same position' (should be 'in'), and 'a road and the river are unchanged over the side' (awkward phrasing). Subject-verb agreement is also inconsistent, such as 'which are remained unchanged'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they occur frequently enough to limit the score to a 5.5 or 6.0 range.
