Student answer (Band 6.0)

The 1st plan represents a site of a farm called Beechwood in the year 1950, while the 2nd plan shows development done till the present date.

Regarding the first plan for 1950, the Beechwood farm was connected to a road, and a river flows around the farm. Beside this, the farm had a of a barn, a farmhouse and areas for various domestic animals for example, chicken, sheep, etc. and the chickens had access to the river, while the sheep were exposed to the road and a track which connects the farm to the road. It also consisted of vegetables, soft fruits and fruit trees.

Coming to the second plan, a farm shop has been built beside the fruit trees, and the track is refurbished into a proper road which connects across the farm. A parking this also built in front of the farm shop and following to it, camping field is set up which has trees around it. Solar panel are set up in the north-east corner of the farm, and another parking is built beside it. The barn is shifted near the chickens as holiday cottages have been built in its previous location.

Overall, major changes have been done throughout the years, and the farm has been developed to be a proper tourist spot, as many facilities such as cottage, camping field. etc. are built.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response successfully identifies the main features of the farm in 1950 and the present day. You have highlighted key changes, such as the addition of the farm shop, holiday cottages, and the solar panels. However, the description of the 1950 layout is slightly cluttered, and some comparisons could be more precise. For instance, mentioning that the barn was 'shifted' is a good observation, but the overall summary could benefit from a more analytical approach to the transformation of the site from a purely agricultural space to a commercial tourist destination. All parts of the prompt are addressed, and the key trends are clearly presented.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, moving from the 1950 layout to the current state, followed by an overview. The use of cohesive devices like 'Regarding the first plan', 'Coming to the second plan', and 'Overall' helps guide the reader through the information. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the referencing could be smoother. For example, the phrase 'following to it' is awkward and disrupts the flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two time periods, which assists in the overall readability of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'refurbished', 'domestic animals', and 'tourist spot'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'a parking this also built' (should be 'a parking area was also built') and 'Solar panel are set up' (should be plural 'panels'). While you attempt to use descriptive language, some phrasing is slightly repetitive or imprecise. Increasing your use of more sophisticated synonyms for 'built' or 'changed' would help elevate your score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'The 1st plan represents a site of a farm' (should be 'The first plan represents the site of a farm') and 'Solar panel are set up' (subject-verb agreement error). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are occasional errors that slightly affect the professional tone. To reach a higher band, focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and refining the use of articles, as these small errors occur frequently throughout the text.
