Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response attempts to describe the changes between 1950 and the present day. However, it fails to provide a clear overview or highlight the most significant trends. The description is fragmented and lacks a logical structure, making it difficult to follow the comparison. While some features like the shops, barn, and solar panels are mentioned, the lack of a clear summary and the inclusion of irrelevant personal commentary (e.g., 'no pollution and noisy area') detract from the task requirements. The response does not effectively select and report the main features as required for an Academic Task 1.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay lacks paragraphing, which makes it difficult to navigate the information. The progression of ideas is disjointed, jumping between the 1950s and the present without clear transitions. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, such as the repetitive use of 'now a time' and 'at the road side'. The lack of logical sequencing means the reader struggles to identify the relationship between the past and present states of the farm. The overall arrangement is not coherent.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. Basic terms are used throughout, and there are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'amount of population are in less form' and 'the strength is too much low level'. The student struggles to describe the map features accurately, often using non-standard phrasing like 'the barn is now link at the both sides of road'. There is no evidence of a range of vocabulary suitable for describing maps or trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'population are', 'many roads are go'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, and punctuation is used incorrectly throughout the text. There is no evidence of complex sentence structures; the writing relies on simple, often incorrectly constructed, clauses. The high frequency of errors makes the text difficult to read.
