Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the maps, but the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks precision. While you identify key changes, the description of locations is often vague (e.g., 'in the between track and river'). The overview is present but lacks a clear, professional summary of the most significant trends, such as the transition from agricultural production to tourism-related facilities. To improve, ensure you clearly contrast the 1950 layout with the present day by grouping features logically rather than listing them in a way that is difficult to follow. More specific references to the map's layout would enhance the clarity of your report.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression of ideas is hindered by awkward phrasing and a lack of cohesive devices. Transitions between sentences are often abrupt, and the use of referencing is sometimes unclear (e.g., 'besides in the west south side no change it had a road'). The internal structure of the paragraphs is repetitive, and the lack of varied linking words makes the text feel disjointed. Using a wider range of cohesive devices, such as 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in contrast', would significantly improve the flow and readability of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You rely on simple descriptors like 'added' and 'located' throughout the text. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'the rendered map depicts' (which is slightly unnatural in this context) and 'the west south side'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise terminology related to map descriptions, such as 'converted', 'replaced', 'expanded', or 'situated', and demonstrate a better grasp of geographical prepositions to describe the layout accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the major change the site of today experience'), incorrect tense usage, and missing articles. For instance, 'road run through' should be 'the road ran through'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and capitalisation. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like verb tense consistency and article usage, which would help in producing more error-free sentences.
