Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the maps, identifying key changes such as the conversion of sheep land to camping and parking areas, and the addition of holiday cottages. However, the overview is weak; it lacks a clear summary of the most significant trends, such as the shift from agricultural to tourism-based land use. Some descriptions are slightly inaccurate or vague, such as stating the fruit and vegetable plantations 'remain the same' when the map shows a reduction in the fruit tree area. To improve, ensure the overview highlights the most striking transformations rather than just listing details.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs for the two time periods, and a conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally awkward, such as 'which all were surrounded by river from one side' and 'Space just below the land'. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the referencing between sentences could be smoother. The conclusion is brief and lacks a strong synthesis of the information provided, which limits the overall flow of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'major part of the farm was occupied for the purpose related to the sheep' instead of 'used for sheep farming', and 'new made road' instead of 'newly constructed road'. The student relies on basic descriptors and struggles with collocations. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on using more precise terminology related to map descriptions, such as 'replaced by', 'transformed into', or 'situated in the vicinity of'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('The given figures illustrates', 'there has a vast major changes'), incorrect verb tenses ('has take the place', 'has became'), and missing articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of periods and commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage would significantly improve the quality.
