Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the farm's transformation, such as the addition of the camping field, solar panels, and the conversion of the barn. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. The introduction includes subjective commentary ('The new changes... is quite good'), which is inappropriate for an Academic Task 1 report. Furthermore, the description of the 1950 layout is slightly disjointed, and some comparisons could be more precise. To improve, focus on objective reporting of the data and ensure that the overview clearly highlights the most significant changes, such as the shift from agricultural production to tourism-based facilities.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression from the past to the present. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical. For instance, the transition 'And then a fruit trees' is grammatically awkward and lacks a clear logical link to the previous sentence. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'there are between the track and river is running around the south side,' which makes the spatial description difficult to follow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring clear subject-verb agreement would enhance the flow of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. There are several instances of word-choice errors and non-standard phrasing, such as 'sheep location' instead of 'grazing area' and 'newly add' instead of 'newly added'. The repetition of 'Beachwood Farm' and 'area' suggests a limited range of vocabulary. To achieve a higher score, you should use more specific terminology related to map descriptions, such as 'situated in the north-west,' 'replaced by,' or 'converted into,' and avoid informal or repetitive language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('The image illustrate,' 'The new changes... is'), incorrect tense usage, and awkward sentence structures ('there are between the track and river is running'). While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of control over basic sentence construction and punctuation limits the score. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed accurately. Proofreading for basic errors like 'CAMIPING' and 'FEAUTURES' is also essential.
