Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response generally addresses the task by summarizing the main features of the farm site in 1950 and today. The overview indicates some changes but lacks specifics and clear comparisons. For example, saying "the facilities had been extended replacing sheep grounds with parking" is vague and could be more detailed to enhance clarity. Overall, while the response touches on the necessary elements, it does not fully develop comparisons or describe changes in detail enough to achieve a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
Coherence and cohesion are evident but could be improved. The paragraphs lack clear topic sentences, making it harder to follow the progression of ideas. For example, the transition from discussing the farmhouse and chicken field to new additions at the farm feels abrupt. Improved use of cohesive devices (e.g., conjunctions, linking phrases) would help create smoother transitions. Overall, while information is logically presented, stronger cohesion is needed for clarity.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The lexical resource demonstrates some range, but there are instances of inappropriate word choices that affect the overall tone and precision. For instance, phrases like "chickens field" and "today site of farm" should be corrected to "chicken field" and "today's farm site," respectively. Vocabulary is mostly appropriate for the task, but more varied and precise language would enhance the writing. Additionally, the response includes some repetition, like "parking" appearing multiple times; diversifying vocabulary could strengthen the piece.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
Grammatical range and accuracy are inconsistent. There are grammatical errors, such as "which is same as today" (should be "which is the same as today") and phrasing issues like "the track around the fields are now roads" (should be "the track around the fields is now a road"). While the student demonstrates some range, including complex sentences, these errors detract from clarity. The response requires more grammatical accuracy and varied structures to improve this score.
Overall feedback
Your response identifies some key changes to the farm site and mentions the preservation of certain features; however, it lacks detailed comparisons and clear descriptions. To enhance your task achievement, focus on clearly outlining major changes and providing specific details to engage the reader. Improving coherence through proper paragraphing and transitions will help structure your response better. Additionally, be mindful of grammatical accuracy and diversify your vocabulary to elevate your writing quality. Consider paying closer attention to grammatical accuracy in your sentences.
