Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While the student attempts to describe the changes between 1950 and today, the information is presented in a fragmented and repetitive manner. Key features, such as the specific locations of the farmhouse, barn, and the addition of new infrastructure, are mentioned but not clearly synthesized or compared. The overview is weak and lacks a clear summary of the main trends, such as the transition from agricultural focus to increased infrastructure and development. The response is under-developed and lacks the necessary detail to fully address the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay lacks a logical structure. Paragraphing is absent or poorly executed, and the flow of ideas is disjointed. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link sentences and ideas, making the text difficult to follow. The transition between the description of the past and the present is abrupt, and the repetition of phrases like 'according to the diagram' and 'now a days' creates a mechanical and repetitive feel. The overall arrangement of information does not demonstrate a clear progression, which is essential for a high-scoring response.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. The student relies on basic words like 'things', 'available', and 'expand' to describe complex changes. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'soft tree' and 'sheep is large amount', which hinder clarity. The student struggles to use precise terminology related to maps or urban development (e.g., 'track line' instead of 'path' or 'access road'). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information accurately, and the errors are noticeable throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There is a lack of control over basic sentence structures, with many fragments and run-on sentences. Subject-verb agreement is consistently incorrect (e.g., 'beechwood farm are', 'sheep is large amount'). Punctuation is largely ignored, and there is an absence of complex sentence structures. The errors are pervasive and occur in almost every sentence, making the text difficult to read and understand. Significant improvement in basic grammar and sentence construction is required.
