Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response identifies the main features of the farm's transformation, such as the introduction of the farm shop, camping field, and solar panels. However, the report is somewhat superficial. It lacks a clear, analytical overview of the scale of change, and the description of the layout is repetitive and lacks precision. For instance, stating 'all the design remains same' is inaccurate given the significant additions mentioned. The response would benefit from grouping features more logically (e.g., what was removed vs. what was added) rather than listing them in a disjointed manner. To improve, ensure that the overview highlights the most significant trends, such as the shift from purely agricultural use to a more commercial and tourism-oriented site.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into three short paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is weak. The second paragraph is a list of features rather than a cohesive description of the site's evolution. Cohesive devices are largely absent or used mechanically, such as the repetitive use of 'at the same place'. The final paragraph is redundant, repeating information already stated in the introduction and body, which does not contribute to the logical flow of the report. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'whereas', 'consequently', 'in contrast') to connect sentences and show the relationship between the 1950 layout and the current one.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'at the same place' and 'there were many changes' are used multiple times, which restricts the range. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'solar panels and holiday cottages also manufactured' (solar panels are installed, cottages are built) and 'the design of beechwood farm had a major changes' (the farm underwent major changes). To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise verbs and nouns related to map descriptions, such as 'converted', 'replaced', 'expanded', or 'demolished', and ensure accurate subject-verb agreement.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('the structure of a farm'), incorrect verb tenses ('Road made at the place of track'), and awkward phrasing ('Food trees located at the same place'). The sentence 'there were many changes happen' is grammatically incorrect; it should be 'many changes have happened'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of complex structures and the frequency of basic errors prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focus on using a mix of passive voice for describing changes and ensuring consistent tense usage.
