Student answer (Band 6.0)

The geographical representation delineates the information regarding the various developments noticed in the Beechwood farm from 1950 till today.

All in all, it is noticed that multifarious improvements have been noticed in the farm during a mentioned period of time.

By scrutinizing the maps, it is evident that not only new farm shop has been built beside the fruit trees but also the small vehicle parking area. Even though, the track is now converted to a brand new concrete road. Furthermore, the area which is earlier used for feeding the sheep has now been modified a lot, just beside the parking area a small tree is planted along with a beautiful camping site . Also, on the north west side a major part of sheep ground has been used for putting solar panels for producing electricity for visitors.

Analysing further, it is found that now barn has been built at the intersection of two roads, and now the previous space of barn has been utilized by making holiday cottages for farm tourists along with the parking lot on the opposite side of the road. Farmhouse and chickens has not been seen any kind of change. Well, after all these advancements Beechwood farm now has more facilities and accessibility by the general public.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have successfully identified the main features of the farm's development, such as the new road, the camping site, and the solar panels. You also correctly noted the areas that remained unchanged, like the farmhouse. However, the response lacks a clear overview of the most significant trends, such as the shift from agricultural use to tourism and renewable energy. While you mention individual changes, grouping these into thematic categories (e.g., infrastructure vs. land use) would provide a more cohesive summary. Ensure that all comparisons are precise; for instance, describing the 'sheep ground' as being 'used for' solar panels is accurate, but the overall report could be more analytical regarding the scale of these changes.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is logically organized into paragraphs, moving from an introduction to specific details and a concluding summary. You use some cohesive devices like 'Furthermore', 'Also', and 'Analysing further' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'now' to denote changes. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the flow between sentences could be improved by varying the structure of your cohesive links. Referencing is generally clear, though some sentences are slightly cluttered, which can momentarily disrupt the reader's ability to follow the progression of the site's evolution.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'delineates', 'multifarious', 'scrutinizing', and 'advancements'. While these words show an attempt to use a more sophisticated register, some collocations are slightly unnatural, such as 'multifarious improvements have been noticed' or 'chickens has not been seen any kind of change'. The word 'multifarious' is perhaps too formal or imprecise for this context. To reach a higher band, focus on using vocabulary that is more naturally suited to describing maps and spatial changes, ensuring that your word choices are both precise and contextually appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow, such as 'the area which is earlier used' (should be 'was previously used') and 'chickens has not been seen' (subject-verb agreement error). Additionally, 'Even though, the track is now converted' is an incorrect use of a conjunction. While you attempt complex structures, the control over tense and agreement is inconsistent. Increasing the number of error-free sentences by proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and correct prepositional usage would significantly improve your score.
