Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all key features of the maps, including the conversion of the sheep area and the introduction of new facilities. The overview is clear and highlights the main trend of modernization. However, there are some inaccuracies in the description of locations; for example, stating the barn was 'moved' when it was actually converted, and some descriptions of the layout are slightly confusing. The response successfully identifies the main changes and makes relevant comparisons between the two time periods, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.5 or 7.0, but it lacks the precision in spatial description required for a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. The progression of ideas is generally clear, moving from the 1950 layout to the modern changes. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as the repetitive use of 'meanwhile' and 'with'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when describing the movement or placement of features. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two time periods, which helps the reader follow the development of the site.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to describe the changes effectively. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'converted', 'introduction', and 'replacement'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'in the place of sheep' instead of 'where the sheep area used to be' and 'moved just below the road', which is not entirely accurate based on the visual evidence. These errors do not impede communication but prevent the response from reaching a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'changes which has taken places', 'Solar panels has introduced') and article usage. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar structures are noticeable. The student attempts to use passive voice and complex structures, which is good, but the lack of accuracy in these attempts limits the score. More attention to proofreading for basic agreement and tense consistency would improve the score significantly.
