Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to describe the changes between 1950 and the present day. However, the report is significantly hampered by unclear descriptions of locations and confusing terminology. While you identify some key features like the holiday cottages and solar panels, the spatial relationships are difficult to follow due to inaccurate prepositions and vague phrasing (e.g., 'the west side of beechwood river are present'). The overview is also quite weak, failing to clearly synthesize the most significant trends, such as the shift from agricultural production to tourism and renewable energy. To improve, focus on grouping features logically—such as infrastructure, agricultural areas, and new developments—rather than listing them in a disjointed manner.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal flow is problematic. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as 'By havnig a cursory glance' and 'Moving further ahead,' which do not fit the academic tone required for a report. Furthermore, the referencing is frequently unclear; it is often difficult to determine which area of the map you are describing because the transition between locations is abrupt. The logical progression is hindered by repetitive sentence structures and a lack of clear signposting between the past and present states of the farm. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring clear subject-verb agreement would greatly enhance the readability.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate, which frequently impedes communication. You rely on basic terms and struggle with collocations related to map description. For example, 'chicken shops' is likely an incorrect interpretation of the map's features, and 'solor pannels' contains a spelling error. Phrases like 'many new thing are build' demonstrate a lack of precision. To reach a higher band, you should learn specific vocabulary for describing maps, such as 'converted into,' 'replaced by,' 'extended,' or 'demolished.' Additionally, ensure you are using precise terminology for the features shown, such as 'orchard' for fruit trees or 'accommodation' for cottages.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The grammar is characterized by frequent errors that often cause difficulty for the reader. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The map chart illustrate,' 'sheep located,' 'many new thing are build') and incorrect word order. The sentence structures are largely simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in grammatical breakdown. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary commas and missing articles throughout the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and a correctly conjugated verb, and practicing the correct use of articles and prepositions in a spatial context.
