Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the transformation, such as the addition of the farm shop, parking, and the conversion of the track to a road. However, the description is somewhat repetitive, particularly regarding the sheep land, which is mentioned twice. The overview is functional but lacks a clear synthesis of the most significant changes. Some details, such as the specific location of the barn or the solar panels, are described in a fragmented way, making it difficult for the reader to form a clear mental image of the site's evolution. To improve, focus on grouping related changes together to provide a more cohesive summary of the spatial developments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'in today's plan' is used multiple times). The progression of ideas is occasionally disjointed, especially in the third and fourth paragraphs where individual sentences feel like a list of observations rather than a flowing narrative. Improving the use of transition words and varying the sentence structure would help the ideas flow more naturally. Referencing is generally clear, but the lack of variety in linking phrases limits the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher bands. You rely on basic verbs like 'added', 'replaced', and 'constructed'. While these are accurate, using a wider range of synonyms and more descriptive language would enhance the quality of the report. There are also some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'chickens space' instead of 'chicken coop' or 'chicken area', and 'a tree growing' which is not the most natural way to describe the addition of vegetation. Expanding your vocabulary to include more specific terms for map descriptions will improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that, while they do not impede communication, are noticeable. Examples include 'Their was a land' (should be 'There was'), 'chickens space was remained' (should be 'remained'), and 'Track converted into to road' (missing articles and incorrect preposition). Additionally, there are issues with article usage ('a parking', 'in today plan'). To reach a higher band, you need to demonstrate more consistent control over basic grammar and reduce the frequency of these small errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and articles.
