Student answer (Band 5.0)

In my opinion, the world is the name of changes. The farm that you provided me has many changes from the past many years. It is vital for everything to have a change in them so that they can mold according to the upcoming inventions.

In this given illustration, in 1950 the "Beechwood farm"

have some fruit trees, soft fruits, vegetables, chickens, barn on the one side of a track, however on the other side of a track there are sheep. On the front of this 1950's farm a road crosses.

On the other hand, if we see the new today's "Beechwood Farm" has changed a lot. Some vital changes have taken place in it. Such as, there was only some fruit trees on the vintage farm but now there are also some farm shops also there are many other vital and essential changes such as we replace Barn with Holiday Cottage and put Barn in front of road. On other side of road we also saw many changes such as a new parking, camping fields, some solar panels and one more parking area there.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to adopt the objective, analytical tone required for an Academic Task 1 report. The introduction includes personal opinions ('In my opinion, the world is the name of changes') which are irrelevant to the task. While the main features are identified, the description is somewhat disorganized and lacks a clear overview or summary of the most significant trends. The comparison between the two time periods is present but lacks the precision needed to reach a higher band. To improve, focus on describing the data objectively without personal commentary and ensure a clear 'overview' paragraph highlights the most striking changes, such as the shift from agricultural use to leisure facilities.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the repetitive use of 'on the other side of a track' and 'on the other hand'. The transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is abrupt, and the lack of sophisticated linking words makes the flow feel disjointed. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when describing the movement of the barn. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the readability and coherence of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic descriptors like 'vital', 'essential', and 'changes'. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'the world is the name of changes' and 'vintage farm', which do not fit the context of a map description. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the spatial changes with precision. To improve, you should incorporate more specific terminology related to map descriptions, such as 'transformed', 'converted', 'demolished', 'expanded', or 'redeveloped', and avoid informal or overly simplistic language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of information. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('the farm... have some fruit trees'), article usage ('on the front of this 1950's farm a road crosses'), and tense consistency. The sentence structures are predominantly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. Errors such as 'there was only some fruit trees' (should be 'were') and 'put Barn in front of road' (missing articles) are common. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
