The plans below show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.



 

Student answer (Band 6.5)

the given two maps illustrate the changes of beechwood farm from 1950 to the present day.

it can be clearly seen that, the farm has been transformed from a purely agricultural site into a diversified tourist and commercial complex, while retaining its core farming areas and farmhouse. key changes include the development of the former sheep field, the addition of new facilities, and the relocation of the barm.

in 1950, the farm was accessed by a track leading off the main road in the north. the north-eastren part of the site was large field for sheep, while the north-west contained fruit trees. south of tthat were fields for soft fruits and vegetables, bounded by a river which curved around the southern edge. in the south-east, there was a barm and a formhouse with a chikens enclosure just south of it.

today, the track has been widened into a road. the fruit trees, soft fruits, vegetables, farmhouse and chikens area all remain in their original locations. however, a farm shop has been built within the fruit trees area, with a parking area just to it north. the large sheep field has been converted into a comping field with tents and large tree, and in the far north-east, solar panales have been installed.

furthermore, the original large barm in the east has been replaced by three holiday cottages, with a second parking area to its north. the barm itself has been relocated to a much smaller building at the end of the road fork, just west of the farmhouse.
