IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The plans below show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.



 

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The given maps illustrate the layout of the Beechwood farm in 1950 and its changes in the present day. Overall, the site of a farm changed significantly with the addition of facilities such as parking, a camping field, solar panels and cottages, while the main roads and major space for vegetables, fruits and trees remained unchanged.

In 1950, there was a large area for the sheep grazing in the northern side which later converted into a camping field with the installation of solar panels on the side corner. In the past, there was no parking area, however at present there are two parking spaces on the both side of a camping field. Space occupied by the fruit tress, soft fruits and vegetables remained unchanged throughout the period except an addition of farm shop beside the fruit trees.

The main roads and the river remained same but the track upgraded into a road and the barn is relocated on the junction of road. Old barn was located at the end side of the track which later replaced with large holiday cottages, meanwhile the farmhouse and the chicken enclosure remained same as the past.
