The plans below show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 7.5)
The plans illustrate the layout of a farm in 1950 and the changes that have taken place on the same site up to the present day.
Overall, the farm has undergone significant development, with several new facilities being introduced, including a camping field, solar panels, holiday cottages and a farm shop. The sheep area was largely replaced by these new facilities, while several agricultural features, such as the fruit trees, soft fruits, vegetables, farmhouse and chicken area, remained unchanged. The barn was also relocated and the tracks were replaced by roads.
In 1950, a large area was used for keeping sheep. Today, this area has been transformed into a camping field, with a section allocated to solar panels. The original barn has been moved to the corner of the road and is now smaller than it was previously. In contrast, the areas used for growing soft fruits and vegetables, as well as the farmhouse and chicken area, have remained in their original locations. The fruit trees have also been retained.
Several new facilities have been added to the farm. A farm shop has been built next to the fruit trees, with a parking area directly in front of it. In addition, holiday cottages have been constructed on the site of the original barn, and another parking area has been provided in front of them. Both parking areas are located within what was formerly the sheep area. Finally, the original tracks have been replaced by roads, changing the way different parts of the farm are accessed.
