Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, reaching only 88 words. This significantly impacts the ability to fully address the task. While the student identifies some key features, such as the addition of solar panels and holiday cottages, the description is overly simplistic and lacks the necessary detail to provide a comprehensive summary. There is no attempt to describe the layout in a structured way or to provide a meaningful comparison between the two time periods. The response is far too brief to adequately cover the requirements of an Academic Task 1 report.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response is organized into very short, fragmented paragraphs. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas, making the text feel like a list of observations rather than a cohesive report. The progression of information is minimal, and the conclusion is abrupt and does not effectively synthesize the information provided. The lack of logical flow and the absence of clear paragraphing structure significantly hinder the readability of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very basic and repetitive. For example, the phrase 'some fruit trees' is repeated twice in the same sentence. There is no attempt to use a range of vocabulary to describe changes, such as 'transformed,' 'replaced,' or 'expanded.' The word choice is limited to simple nouns and verbs, which does not demonstrate the range required for a higher band. Spelling errors, such as 'somwe,' further detract from the quality of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. There are several errors in subject-verb agreement, such as 'Beechwood farm have' instead of 'has.' Additionally, there are issues with article usage and prepositional phrases, such as 'a parking' (which should be 'a car park') and 'with the connection of three roads.' The lack of complex sentence structures and the presence of frequent basic errors indicate a very limited control of grammar.
