The plans below show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.



 

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The maps illustrate the layout of a farm in 1950 and the similar farm's today's layout.

Overall, it is evident that in 1950 the site of the farm was simple, while now it is well established and extended site where new facilities have been introduced. Moreover, the whole site has been revolutionized.

In 1950, there was a river surrounded to the southwestern boundary of the farm. On the northwestern corner a road was passed above the river, which was followed by track making slope, before ending at the east site of the farm. There was a area north to the track for sheep, whereas south to the track there were various spots. At the southwestern corner of the track fruit trees were cultivated, beneath to it was area for soft fruits, which followed by vegetables. Opposite to it, barn was located, under which there was a farmhouse. South to farmhouse there was a area for chickens.

Now the site of a form has been extended and developed River is at the same place, while road is extended and track has been converted into road. Fruit trees, soft fruits and vegetables are at their similar location. Additionally, barn has been replaced and located beneath the vegetables at the tip of the road. A farm shop has been introduced north to the fruit trees, opposite to it a parking area has been established, moreover another parking area has been introduced at the northeastern side of the road. The holiday cottages have been made at the place where there was barn in 1950. However, the farmhouse and chickens area are at the same place. Furthermore, the map depicts that the sheep area have been replaced by the camping field at the west side and solar panels at the east side of that area.
