Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the maps, identifying key changes such as the introduction of solar panels, camping fields, and the conversion of the barn into holiday cottages. However, the description is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, analytical comparison. For instance, stating that the farmhouse remains 'untouched' is accurate, but the report could be improved by grouping features more logically (e.g., agricultural vs. recreational changes) rather than listing them sequentially. While all parts of the task are addressed, the overview is slightly repetitive, and some details, such as the specific location of the farm shop, could be described with greater precision to better highlight the spatial transformation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression from the overview to specific details. Cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'Lastly' are used to link ideas; however, some transitions feel slightly forced or mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, though the sentence structure within paragraphs occasionally feels disjointed, particularly in the second paragraph where the transition between the solar panels and the fruit trees could be smoother. Overall, the information is arranged coherently, but the flow between sentences could be more natural to achieve a higher band.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing for clear communication of the changes observed. You successfully use terms like 'amenities', 'allocated', and 'replaced'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'track routes are now developed into a proper road' (a more natural phrasing would be 'the track has been upgraded to a road') and 'on the right end corner' (which is slightly redundant). To reach a higher band, aim for more precise descriptive language and avoid repetitive phrasing like 'major development took place'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist. For example, 'which are introduction of solar panels' lacks an article and proper verb agreement, and 'camping fields which is connected' contains a subject-verb agreement error. Additionally, some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'the sheep farm is now a place for solar panels'. Improving the accuracy of relative clauses and ensuring consistent verb tense usage when describing past versus present states would significantly enhance the quality of the writing.
