Student answer (Band 5.5)

The maps illustrate the modifation that occured to the Beechwood Farm comparing between two different beriods of time 1950 and today '2026'

Overall, it can be clearly seen that the farm kept approximitly the same layout with tiny editing. Furthermore, it turened from a grazing area to a commercail one. comparing the two maps the agrecultural area did not wittensed any modifation exept adding a small Farm shop. Yet the place that used to raise the sheep heds turend to a compeletly artificail place where indivaduals are allowed to park their vechiels, invest with solar power and obtain some intertanment in the camping field next to the trees. Moreover in 1950 there was no streets or roads exept a traking one. Unlike today when road are available. One of the places that changed compeletly is the barn. The Barn had a spacious place above the Farmhouse in addition to the chickens wich kept the same. In contact, in 2026 the Barn has a small place.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the maps, such as the addition of the farm shop, the solar panels, and the camping area. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and contains inaccuracies. For instance, the claim that the agricultural area did not witness any modification is incorrect, as the original sheep grazing area was replaced by a camping site and solar panels. Additionally, the description of the barn is confusing and lacks clarity regarding the specific changes shown in the diagrams. To reach a higher band, you should ensure that your observations are factually accurate based on the visual data and provide a more precise comparison of the layout changes.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs, which provides a basic structure. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Furthermore', 'Moreover', and 'In contrast', their usage is occasionally mechanical or slightly misused (e.g., 'In contact' instead of 'In contrast'). The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial changes described. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that cohesive devices are used to link related ideas more logically would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

There is a limited range of vocabulary, and there are frequent spelling errors that distract the reader, such as 'modifation', 'occured', 'approximitly', 'turened', 'commercail', 'agrecultural', 'wittensed', 'vechiels', and 'intertanment'. These errors are persistent and indicate a lack of control over basic spelling. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'grazing area' and 'solar power', the overall lexical range is restricted. To improve, you need to focus on accurate spelling and expanding your repertoire of descriptive verbs and nouns to better convey the changes observed in the maps.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'comparing between two different beriods', 'it turened from a grazing area to a commercail one', 'the agrecultural area did not wittensed', and 'road are available'. These errors, combined with incorrect verb tenses and subject-verb agreement issues, occasionally impede the flow of information. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and sentence construction is essential.
