Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarize the changes at Beechwood Farm, but it fails to accurately report the specific features shown in the diagrams. The description is vague, using phrases like 'more modern' or 'improved facilities' rather than identifying the specific changes, such as the conversion of the farmhouse into a larger building, the addition of a new road, or the removal of the sheep area. The overview is generic and lacks a clear summary of the most significant trends. Furthermore, the response contains factual inaccuracies, such as claiming the road network remained unchanged while simultaneously stating it was modified. To improve, focus on describing the specific spatial changes clearly.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into short paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. While there is an attempt to use cohesive devices like 'Furthermore' and 'Overall', these are often used incorrectly or repetitively. The final paragraph is particularly disjointed, repeating the word 'Overall' twice in close proximity. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'this area' without a clear antecedent. The flow of information is hindered by these structural issues, making it difficult for the reader to follow the development of the site over time. Better use of linking words and clearer paragraph structure would improve the coherence significantly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. Words like 'developed', 'modern', and 'changes' are used frequently, which restricts the range of expression. There are also errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'wiedned' (widened) and 'aera' (area). The response lacks the specific terminology required for describing maps or diagrams, such as 'demolished', 'converted', 'extended', or 'constructed'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider variety of descriptive verbs and nouns that accurately reflect the visual information provided in the task.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with verb tense consistency, such as 'by passage of time this area will be developed', which is inappropriate for a description of past changes. Subject-verb agreement is also problematic, for example, 'The map shows illustrate' and 'Another significant was'. Punctuation is inconsistent, with irregular spacing around commas and periods. While there is an attempt to use complex sentence structures, these are often faulty. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for tense consistency would be a beneficial first step.
