Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The two layouts compare the Beechwood farm in 1950 and its redeveloped current version.

The new farm is much more complex and technically advance than it was in 1950 and have more facilities for the visitors to shops and to enjoy multiple new activities.

The installment of solar panels enabled the farm to use green energy and there is addition of two new parking areas for visitors, while, there was not any dedicated space for parking in 1950. Furthermore, the tracks are replaced with roads to provide vahicles, access to the second parking slot on the very right side of map.

In addition to it, the introduction of a farm shop and a camping field added value to fun activities on the farm. Moreover, the old Barn is replaced with holiday cottages and the new barn is now located just next to roads while, the location of fileds of fruit trees, soft fruits and vegitables are not changed and still situated near to river.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the farm's transformation, including the addition of parking, solar panels, and the conversion of the barn. However, the overview is somewhat limited. While you identify that the farm is more complex, you could improve by highlighting the most significant changes more clearly in the introduction or a dedicated overview paragraph. Some details, such as the specific location of the fruit trees and vegetables, are mentioned, but the comparison could be more analytical by focusing on the shift from a purely agricultural site to a commercial/leisure-oriented one. The response addresses the prompt adequately but lacks the depth of analysis required for a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In addition to it', 'Moreover', and 'while'. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or are used with minor grammatical errors, such as the comma usage in 'while, there was not any'. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be smoother to achieve a more professional academic tone. Paragraphing is present, but the structure of the overview could be better integrated to improve the overall cohesion of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'redeveloped', 'facilities', and 'installment'. However, there are several spelling errors ('advance' instead of 'advanced', 'vahicles' instead of 'vehicles', 'fileds' instead of 'fields', 'vegitables' instead of 'vegetables') and minor collocation issues. To reach a higher band, you should aim for more precise vocabulary related to map descriptions, such as 'situated in the northern part' or 'underwent significant modifications'. The current range is sufficient to convey meaning, but the errors in spelling and word choice prevent a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'technically advance' (should be 'advanced'), 'have more facilities' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'provide vahicles, access' (incorrect punctuation). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they are frequent enough to impact the overall accuracy. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and proofreading for basic punctuation errors, particularly around the use of commas and conjunctions.
