IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The plans below show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.



 

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The two plans illustrate the changes that have taken place at the Beechwood Farm between 1950 and the present day.

Overall, the farm has undergone several developments ,with several areas being converted tourist and commercial areas. However, the fruit trees, soft fruits and vegetable fields have remained largely unchanged.

In 1950, the northern and central area was mainly used for agriculture. There were several fruit and vegetable field in the south. There was a massive sheep field in the north east. There was a barn , farmhouse and chicken area in the south. A river ran along the boundary of the farm.

Today, there is a farm shop and parking space at the western side. The enormous sheep field is now converted into designated area for camping , solar panels and holiday cottages are now introduced at north east. Nevertheless, the fruit and vegetable fields, chicken and farmhouse have been exactly in the same position. Barn is relocated at southern side.

In conclusion, there are significant changes that have taken place throughout the period but the chicken, farmhouse and vegetable fields have remained unchanged.
