Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, reaching only 87 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. The summary lacks a clear overview of the main trends, such as the transition from agricultural land to a more diversified commercial site. Furthermore, the response includes subjective commentary ('genius decision'), which is inappropriate for an Academic Task 1 report. To improve, you must describe the visual changes objectively, provide a comprehensive overview, and ensure the response is sufficiently long to cover all key features of the diagrams.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The response is fragmented, consisting of short, disconnected sentences and bullet-point-like phrases (e.g., 'The building of roads with replacement of tracks'). There is no logical progression of ideas, and the paragraphing is ineffective. The use of cohesive devices is almost entirely absent, making the text difficult to follow as a cohesive report. To improve, you should group related information into clear paragraphs and use linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'in contrast', 'subsequently') to connect your sentences and ideas logically.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'significant changes' and 'generated several revenue streams' are used, but the range is insufficient to describe the complex visual information provided in the diagrams. There are also issues with word choice, such as using 'edible foods' to describe farm stock, which is imprecise. To achieve a higher band, you need to use a wider range of vocabulary related to spatial changes, such as 'converted', 'expanded', 'demolished', or 'replaced', and avoid informal or subjective language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('The graph illustrate') and incorrect preposition usage ('changes into the Beechwood farm'). Many sentences are incomplete or lack a proper verb structure, such as 'The building of roads with replacement of tracks.' The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subjects and verbs agree, and practicing the use of passive voice, which is essential for describing changes in diagrams.
