Student answer (Band 6.0)
The diagram illustrates the transformation happend on beechwood farm between 1950 and today.
In 1960, the main road was crossing through from West to North which is still the same on today's map. Fruit trees area was located next to main road in 1960 and it still lies on the same location but a little farm shop has been created in the same area. Adjacent to Fruit trees area, Soft fruits side was located that is constant on current map. However, Sheep area was empty in 1960 and now solar panels, camping field, east and north parking area has been transformed which are major development in that area.
A Track was passing through from north to east in 1960 and it name has been changed in present map form Track to Road. in 1960, Barn was situated on east and centre of the map which has been replaced into little section and introduced it towards corner of the triangle shape road. Holiday Cottages has been manufactured on the old barn. Farmhouse, vegetables and Chickens section are still located at the same place. Whereas, A river runs through from north west to south east.
Overall, there are significant changes on the map. Some areas are still on the same location. However, some key areas has been replaced from its old to new location.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the transformation, such as the addition of solar panels, the camping field, and the conversion of the barn. However, the report contains factual inaccuracies regarding dates (e.g., mentioning 1960 instead of 1950) and some descriptions are slightly confusing, such as the claim that the barn was 'replaced into little section'. While the main trends are identified, the overview is somewhat simplistic and could benefit from a more analytical summary of the overall shift from a purely agricultural site to a more diversified, tourism-oriented farm. The inclusion of specific details is generally good, but the precision of the reporting needs improvement to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, moving from an introduction to body paragraphs detailing specific changes, and concluding with an overview. There is a clear progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as the repetitive use of 'in 1960' and 'on the map'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when describing the location of the barn and the track. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect the spatial changes more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to describe the changes (e.g., 'transformation', 'adjacent', 'manufactured'). However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'manufactured' for buildings (which should be 'constructed' or 'converted') and 'side' used instead of 'area' or 'section'. Some phrasing is also repetitive. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise terminology related to map descriptions and urban/rural development, and ensure that word choices are contextually appropriate for describing physical changes to a site.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'some key areas has been replaced'), incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'transformation happend'), and missing articles. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are noticeable and occur throughout the text. The punctuation is generally functional, but the control over complex structures is inconsistent. Increasing the accuracy of basic grammar and refining the use of passive voice—which is essential for describing map changes—would significantly enhance the quality of the writing.
