Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the maps, including the addition of solar panels, the farm shop, and the conversion of the barn into holiday cottages. However, the overview is somewhat simplistic and lacks a clear, analytical summary of the most significant changes. While the response identifies key developments, the description of the layout is occasionally imprecise (e.g., 'at beside of the main road'). To reach a higher band, you should focus on grouping information more logically—perhaps by categorizing changes into infrastructure, agricultural use, and amenities—rather than listing them sequentially. The comparison between 1950 and the present is clear, but the overall summary could be more sophisticated.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into an introduction, an overview, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of cohesive devices is limited. For example, phrases like 'To start with that' are non-standard and awkward. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'the old barn building building' (repetition) and 'there is two parking area'. Paragraphing is present, but the internal logic within the body paragraph could be improved by using more varied linking words to guide the reader through the spatial changes more effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. You rely on basic verbs like 'opens', 'remains', and 'developed'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'coverts track into the smooth road' (should be 'converted the track into a paved road') and 'camping field' (likely 'campsite'). The repetition of 'area' and 'building' limits the lexical range. To improve, try to incorporate more specific vocabulary related to map descriptions, such as 'transformed', 'replaced', 'extended', or 'converted'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('The maps provides', 'there is two parking area'), missing articles ('at beside of the main road'), and awkward phrasing ('at the current day'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and capitalization errors. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of these errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be highly beneficial.
