The plans below show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.



 

Student answer (Band 7.5)

The two maps illustrate the key structural changes that have occurred on a farm site from 1950 to the present day.

Overall, the site has undergone a complete transformation from a traditional agricultural property into a commercialised tourist attraction facility featuring a modern ideology of enjoyment.

The original infrastructure, the central track from 1950, has been upgraded to a paved road to handle increased traffic. While the fruit tree garden, soft fruit patches, and vegetable gardens near the river have been retained, a new farm shop has been built attached to them. Furthermore, while the farmhouse and chicken coop remain in their original positions, the nearby barn was demolished and replaced with holiday cottages, with a smaller barn relocated toward the centre.

In terms of land use, the large sheep pasture land that previously occupied the southern and eastern areas has been completely removed. In its place, a camping field and two dedicated parking areas have been constructed to accommodate visitors. Additionally, a patch of land is utilised for solar power generation, located on the far eastern edge of the property.
