Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the maps, identifying key changes such as the conversion of the track to a road, the addition of the farm shop, and the development of the northern area. However, the overview is somewhat limited and lacks a clear synthesis of the most significant transformations. While the response addresses the task, some descriptions are repetitive, particularly regarding the northern area, which is described in both the second and fourth paragraphs. To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview highlights the most striking changes more effectively and avoid redundant information to maintain a concise summary.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on specific areas of the farm. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Likewise', and 'Furthermore' are used to link ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of information is generally clear, moving from the western side to the south-eastern side and then the northern area. However, the repetition of information about the northern area disrupts the flow and makes the structure feel less cohesive than it could be. Improving the logical flow between paragraphs would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, with terms like 'redesigned', 'converted', and 'shifted' used to describe the changes. However, there are some inaccuracies and repetitive phrasing. For example, 'spare place' is not the most natural collocation for land, and 'inserted' is an unusual choice for solar panels. There are also minor spelling errors, such as 'pannels' instead of 'panels'. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and a wider variety of descriptive verbs to avoid repeating 'developed' and 'redesigned' multiple times throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and tense consistency. For instance, 'the farm consist of' should be 'consisted of', and 'farmhouse and chicken areas remains' should be 'remain'. Additionally, there are missing articles, such as 'in 1950, the farm consist of track' instead of 'a track'. These errors are noticeable but do not significantly impede communication. Increasing the accuracy of basic grammatical structures and ensuring consistent tense usage will help improve the score.
