Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. Because the text is incomplete and ends abruptly mid-sentence, the main features of the farm are not fully described or compared. While the student identifies some changes, such as the addition of the farm shop and the camping field, the lack of development and the failure to complete the task prevent a higher score. To improve, you must provide a full overview of the changes and ensure all areas of the map are described in detail to meet the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response lacks a clear logical progression. The introduction is repetitive, and the body paragraphs are not well-structured. Cohesive devices are largely absent, making the transition between the 1950s layout and the current layout disjointed. The text ends abruptly, which disrupts the flow of information. To improve, use clear paragraphing—one for the introduction/overview and one or two for the specific details—and use linking words such as 'whereas', 'in contrast', or 'subsequently' to connect your ideas more effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is very basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'basic and simple places' and 'that which thing is grown' are imprecise and unnatural. There is a lack of specific terminology related to map description, such as 'located in the northern section' or 'undergone significant transformation'. The word choice is often awkward, which hinders the clarity of the description. You should focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary for describing changes, such as 'demolished', 'converted', 'expanded', or 'replaced'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Subject-verb agreement is inconsistent, such as 'These two diagrams illustrates' (should be 'illustrate') and 'there was three types' (should be 'there were three types'). Sentence structures are simple and often contain errors in word order or punctuation. The incomplete sentence at the end further demonstrates a lack of control over sentence structure. To improve, focus on basic subject-verb agreement and ensure that every sentence has a clear subject, verb, and object.
