Student answer (Band 6.0)

Task-1

The diagram compares the layout of a beechwod farm as in 1950 with the today.

Overall, it is clear that the beechwod farm is modernized and equipped with some new facilities to provides better experience to the visitors, whereas the sheep farm is cleared to make a space for a camping field, a parking, and power plants.

Initially, the beechwod farm offered fruit trees, soft fruits, vegetables, chickens, farmhouse, track field and a farm house. However, in the new layout, the vegetables and fruits fields remained same, only additions of farm shop in the fruit tree field. Surprisingly, barn is turned into holiday cottages and in the nearby parking is introduced.

Furthermore, on the other side of diagram where often sheeps are located is developed with some new facilities, such as camping side, a parking area and interestingly solar panels. The barn is relocated in between chickens and vegetables fields linked with the road.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the transformation well. You successfully identified the key changes, such as the modernization of the farm, the introduction of holiday cottages, and the addition of renewable energy sources. However, the report is slightly hindered by inaccuracies in detail; for instance, you mention that vegetables and fruits remained the same, but the plan shows a significant reduction in these areas. Additionally, the description of the barn relocation is slightly confusing. To reach a higher band, ensure that your data reporting is precise and that you clearly distinguish between what was removed and what was added to provide a more accurate summary of the visual information.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'whereas', 'initially', 'however', and 'furthermore' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'on the other side of diagram where often sheeps are located'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, which affects the overall progression. To improve, focus on using transition signals more naturally and ensure that the subject of each sentence is clearly defined to help the reader follow the spatial changes described in the diagrams.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'modernized', 'facilities', 'relocated', and 'solar panels'. However, there are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'beechwod' (spelling), 'camping side' (should be 'site'), and 'sheeps' (incorrect plural). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your report. To achieve a higher score, focus on correct spelling and collocations, and try to incorporate more varied descriptive language to describe the changes in the landscape, such as 'converted', 'replaced', or 'expanded'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('a camping field', 'a parking', 'the barn') and subject-verb agreement ('vegetables and fruits fields remained same'). Some sentences are slightly disjointed, such as 'the barn is turned into holiday cottages and in the nearby parking is introduced'. To improve, pay closer attention to article usage and ensure that your sentence construction is grammatically sound. Reducing these minor errors will significantly improve the readability and professional tone of your writing.
