Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the transformation, such as the addition of amenities and the conversion of the railway. However, the description is somewhat superficial. For instance, the mention of 'advanced technologies' like solar panels is a good observation, but the overall summary lacks a clear, comparative overview of the spatial changes. The response identifies the key differences between 1950 and today, but the analysis is slightly hampered by inaccurate reporting of some details (e.g., the barn was not 'shifted' but rather repurposed or relocated). To improve, ensure that the overview clearly highlights the most significant changes, such as the shift from a purely agricultural site to a tourist-oriented facility.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into an introduction, an overview, and a body paragraph. While there is a logical progression, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For example, the transition 'In present' is non-standard, and the connection between sentences could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate for the task, but the internal flow within the body paragraph is slightly disjointed. Using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in contrast to') would help improve the flow and clarity of the comparison between the two time periods.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several instances of imprecise word choice and awkward phrasing. For example, 'very facilities' is grammatically incorrect, and 'not very modified' is unnatural. The term 'bran' is likely a misspelling of 'barn', and 'adopt as residency' is an incorrect collocation. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'amenities' and 'renovation', the overall range is limited. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise terminology for describing map changes, such as 'demolished', 'expanded', 'converted into', or 'replaced by'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('Beechwood Farm does not contain'), incorrect article usage ('the Farm', 'a Farm'), and awkward phrasing ('provide an easy to tourists'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure often feels repetitive. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring consistent verb tense usage when describing past versus present states. Reducing the frequency of these errors is essential for achieving a higher score.
