The plans below show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.



 

Student answer (Band 7.5)

The plans illustrates the changes that have taken place at Beechwood Farm from 1950 to the present day.

overall, the farm has undergone considerable redevelopment, with the former sheep-grazing area being replaced by recreational, commercial, and energy-related facilities. By contrast, the three areas used for growing fruits and vegetables have remained largely unchanged.

In 1950, the northern and western sections of the farm comprised sheep pasture ad cultivated areas: fruit trees in the northwest, soft fruits in the centre and vegetables in the south. A network o tracks connected these areas with the farmhouse and barn in the southeast. A small chicken enclosure was also located beside the farmhouse.

Today, the three crop-growing areas remain in their original positions. However, the sheep pasture has been transformed into a camping field and a solar-panel area. A farm shop and parking area have been added in the northwest, while another car park is located in the east. The former tracks have been replaced by roads, improving access across the site. In addition, holiday cottages have been built beside the farmhouse, and the barn has been moved closer to the centre of the farm.
