IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The plans below show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Two floor maps compare the Beechwood farm site in 1950 with its current state as of today.
Overall, it can be noticed that the north-eastern region had the most development. Also, the track within the farm underwent modification to form roads. Additionally, a tarred road crossing a river was seen in both floor plans.
In 1950, the north-east region of the map was occupied only by sheep but today, it has been replaced by solar panels, a camping field and two parking lots; one on each side. Also, the tarred road which goes over a river at the north-western region of the map remains untouched. In addition, track was developed to a roads in todays map.
Moving downwards to the southern part of the farm, the barn was converted to a holiday cottage while the barn was moved closer to the road. The chickens, farmhouse, vegetables and soft fruits sections remained the same in both maps with no modification. A small portion of the fruit trees was cut out from the 1950 model creating a farm shop in today's design.
