Student answer (Band 5.0)
The plans illustrates the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site which is change in present day.
At first glance, in 1950 their is prominent road passing through the road and a track which starts from the road and continues to other point of the river. There are lot of changes in the site and the major change is in the sheep area where it divided into 2 parts and each part has a separate parking and the track is changes into the road which link to every position of the site. But some things remain same likewise, fruit trees, soft fruits, vegetables, and chickens. With road along the parking in present day a camping field and on the other side solar panels are placed and a tree is grown near to parking of camping field area. In addition, a farm shop which attached with road where the main road crosses the river and the position of barn is changed and the previous place now there is a holiday cottages where farmhouse and the chickens on that field.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover the main features of the two farm plans, noting elements such as the sheep area, fruit trees, solar panels, and the new farm shop. However, the summary lacks a clear overall overview and fails to effectively synthesize the key spatial changes. Key comparisons are superficial, and the description of layout changes is disjointed, leading to under-developed reporting. This aligns with Band 5 descriptors, where the task is addressed only partially and ideas are somewhat limited.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text suffers from poor paragraphing, being written as an introduction followed by one massive, run-on block of text. While transitional phrases like 'At first glance' and 'In addition' are attempted, the overall organizational structure lacks clear progression. Referencing is frequently unclear (e.g., 'the previous place now there is a holiday cottages where farmhouse and the chickens on that field'), making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial relationships between the past and present layouts. This is indicative of Band 4.5 to 5.0 performance.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, relying heavily on terms provided in the prompt such as 'road', 'site', 'farm', and 'area'. There are notable word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'the plans illustrates' instead of 'illustrate' and 'the track is changes into the road'. Less common lexical items are largely absent or misused. This demonstrates a limited range of vocabulary consistent with a Band 5 score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mixture of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('their is prominent road', 'plans illustrates'), tense inconsistencies ('which is change', 'the track is changes'), and missing prepositions or articles. Many complex sentence attempts are severely faulty, causing confusion for the reader. This performance falls firmly within the Band 5 descriptors.
