Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response successfully covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features of the farm in 1950 and comparing them with current developments. The student identifies major changes, such as the removal of the sheep area to make way for a camping field, solar panels, parking spaces, a farm shop, and holiday cottages. Key unchanged areas, including the vegetable patch, soft fruits, fruit trees, farmhouse, and chickens, are also noted. However, the overview is somewhat colloquial and contains spelling errors like 'chickes', and some descriptions of spatial layout are a bit imprecise or under-developed. Despite these minor flaws, the key information and comparisons are adequately presented, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptor.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response has a coherent overall arrangement, divided logically into an introduction, an overview, and separate body paragraphs detailing the 1950 layout and current changes. However, the progression and cohesion are sometimes hindered by mechanical and faulty linking words, run-on sentences, and repetitive phrasing (such as overusing ' nowadays' and 'moreover'). Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within paragraphs is loose and relies heavily on basic conjunctions and punctuation errors rather than smooth transitions. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in confusing transitional phrases like 'on the other side of trun over'. This performance sits comfortably within the Band 5.5 to 6.0 range, warranting a 5.5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'allocated', 'upgraded', and 'considerable changes'. However, there are noticeable lexical and spelling inaccuracies throughout the text, including 'diagram' instead of 'diagrams', 'furit' for 'fruit', 'trun' for 'turn', and 'shwifted' for 'shifted'. Furthermore, word choices such as 'build numerous new things' are overly simplistic. Although these errors do not completely impede communication, they restrict the vocabulary score to a Band 5.0, as the frequency of spelling and word-choice mistakes is too high for a Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and introductory phrases. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions (e.g., 'The two diagram illustrates', 'significant changes have been done', 'river which flowing', 'they build'). Punctuation is also problematic, marked by comma splices and run-on sentences that require the reader to work harder to decipher the meaning. Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, the writing reflects the characteristics of Band 5.0.
