The plans below show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 7.5)
The maps compare the changes that took place on Beechwood Farm between 1950 and the present day.
Overall, Beechwood Farm has undergone significant development, with several new facilities, including solar panels, a camping field, parking areas and holiday cottages. In contrast, much of the farmland previously used for livestock and crops has been replaced or converted.
In 1950, the majority of Beechwood Farm was used for sheep farming. A track ran through the farm and connected the two sides.
On the right-hand side of the farm, there was a barn for animals such as horses and cows. Below the barn was a farmhouse, alongside an area where chickens were kept.On the left-hand side, there were areas for growing vegetables, soft fruits and fruit trees, with a river running along the edge of the farm.
Today, Beechwood Farm has been considerably developed. Solar panels, a camping field and two parking areas have been added, with one located beside the solar panels and the other next to the camping field.In addition, holiday cottages have been built, while the barn has been relocated to the junction of the roads. The former track has been replaced by roads, and a farm shop has been constructed in the area previously occupied by the fruit trees.
