The plans below show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 7.5)
The two plans illustrate changes that have taken place at Beechwood Farm between 1950 and the present day.
Overall, the farms has been redevloped, changing from an agricultural site into a mixed farming and leisure area. While the fruit trees, soft fruits and vegetables have remained, the sheep pasture has been replaced by a camping field, and new facilities have been introduced.
In 1950, sheep occupied the northern section, while fruit trees, soft fruits and vegetables were located in the central and western areas. A track connected the main road to the farm buildings in the east, where a barn and farmhouse stood. Chickens were kept in the southeast, and the river formed the southern boundary.
Today, the crop-growing areas remain in their original locations, although the track has been converted into roads. The former sheep pasture has become a camping field, with parking and solar panels added nearby. A farm shop has been built beside the fruit trees, while holiday cottages have been added in the east. The barn has been relocated, whereas the farmhouse and chicken enclosure remain.
