The plans below show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.



 

Student answer (Band 7.5)

The two maps illustrate how Beckwood Farm has changed between 1950 and the present day.

Overall, the most significant changes are that the farm has diversified from purely agricultural use into tourism, with the unpaved track replaced by proper roads, while the crop-growing areas and core farm buildings have remained largely unchanged.

In both periods, the layout of fruit trees, soft fruits, and vegetables in the western part of the farm has stayed the same, as have the positions of the barn, farmhouse, and chicken area near the river. However, the dirt track running through the middle of the farm has been upgraded into a paved road.

The most notable transformation has occurred in the northeastern section, where the sheep field has been replaced by a camping field with solar panels installed nearby. In addition, several tourism-related facilities have been added, including a farm shop, two parking areas, and holiday cottages close to the farmhouse.
