Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to compare the 1950 map of Beechwood Farm with the current layout, but it falls short of providing a fully developed or accurate overview. While some key changes are mentioned—such as the addition of solar panels, a farm shop, and a camping field—important elements are misread or poorly articulated. For example, the student claims that 'the location of Barn was changed' and makes confusing remarks about the sheep area and roads. The overview is overly simplistic, stating that the main point of the map is the addition of solar panels. Although the student identifies a few transformations, the reporting lacks precision, and key details regarding the spatial reorganisation of the farm are missed. This performance aligns with the Band 5 descriptors, where the task is addressed only partially and ideas remain somewhat limited and unclear.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5

The essay lacks clear paragraphing, presented mostly as a single block of text with a couple of brief breaks, making the progression difficult to follow. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, and occasionally misused, such as 'therefore' and 'allso adds'. The logical flow between sentences is strained due to abrupt transitions like 'We see the Sheep side in 1950 but when we looked the same area today its compelitly changed'. Pronoun referencing and signposting are weak, failing to guide the reader smoothly through the spatial comparisons between the two time periods. This reflects Band 4 to Band 5 characteristics, where information is not arranged fully coherently and cohesive devices are inadequate or inaccurate.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is very basic, repetitive, and heavily influenced by spelling errors (e.g., 'mape', 'batter', 'compelitly', 'allso', 'smode', 'tryengle', 'frent'). The student attempts some task-specific terms such as 'Solar panels', 'parking', 'camping field', and 'Soft fruits', but overall the range is limited and inadequate for a standard academic response. Word choice is frequently inaccurate, such as using 'batter farming' and 'frent of the fruit trees' instead of 'better farming' and 'in front of the fruit trees'. These lexical shortcomings and persistent spelling mistakes frequently impede communication and place the response firmly in the Band 4 category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The text displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting mostly of simple and attempted complex sentences that are heavily flawed. There are frequent, noticeable grammatical errors throughout the response, such as tense inconsistencies ('show the who it look like', 'when we looked the same area today its compelitly changed'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing ('the track is realy changed to a road and make more smode and clean then past'). Punctuation is also sparse and unreliable. These frequent errors cause significant difficulty for the reader and prevent the grammar from meeting the requirements for higher band scores, matching the Band 4 descriptors.
