The plans below show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.



 

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The two diagrams depict how a farm site has developed since the year 1950.

Overall, despite some features remaining unchanged, substantial improvements have been made to Beechwood farm. One noticeable change is the conversion of a large sheep area into amenities such as parking, solar panels and a camping field.

In 1950, fruit trees, soft trees, and vegetables were cultivated on the farm, and they remained unchanged, apart from the addition of a farm shop in the corner of the fruit-tree area. The barn has been converted into holiday cottages, and it is reloacted to the southern portion of the farm, just above the river. In contrast, the farmhouse and the area designated for accomodating chickens have remained relatively unchanged since 1950.

A further addition is the noteable transformation of the area allocated for sheep. The area has been divided into two sections to create facilities such as solar panels and a camping field. Parking has been introduced at two corners of these newly added features, opposite each other. Additionally,the river continues to flow through the farm.

Overall, the logical flow is easy to follow and meets the requirements for a Band 7.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully using terms like "conversion," "amenities," "cultivated," and "transformation." There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, though a few lexical inaccuracies occur, such as "soft trees" (instead of soft fruits) and "accomodating" (misspelled as "accomodating"). Word choices such as "reloacted" also show minor slips in spelling.
