Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to describe the main changes between the 1950 map and the current layout of Beechwood Farm. However, the overview is extremely weak and fails to highlight the most significant transformations, such as the overall commercialisation of the farm into a leisure and holiday site. While some details are mentioned—such as the conversion of the sheep area into a camping field, the addition of solar panels, and the construction of holiday cottages—the reporting lacks clarity and misses several key features. Furthermore, some descriptions are inaccurate or confusing, such as stating that 'barn area was replaced by holiday cottages and bran was shifted to the left side of the chickens area', whereas the barn on the map actually shifted to the south-west of the farmhouse. Consequently, the task is addressed only partially, warranting a Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into three very short paragraphs, which gives it a somewhat disjointed structure. The overall progression of information is difficult to follow because the description jumps back and forth between different parts of the maps without a clear spatial or logical sequence. Paragraphing is inadequate, as the body and conclusion blend together rather than maintaining distinct roles. Cohesive devices are basic and repetitive, relying on simple connectors like 'In the side of' and 'In comparison'. Reference words are sometimes ambiguous, making it hard to track which parts of the map are being referred to. Overall, the organisation shows noticeable limitations, aligning with a Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and basic, frequently hampered by noticeable errors and spelling mistakes. Examples include 'Beechwoof' instead of Beechwood, 'happend' instead of happened, 'oragnaized' instead of organised, and 'camping filed' instead of camping field. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items such as 'renovated', 'commercialisation', or 'converted', but these are often combined with awkward phrasing or grammatical inaccuracies (e.g., 'farm shop is included', 'parking area is made'). The range of vocabulary is barely adequate to describe the visual data, and errors occasionally cause strain for the reader, placing this performance at Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most sentences are simple or poorly constructed complex sentences, frequently marred by errors in tense usage, prepositions, and article omission. For instance, the opening sentence 'The illustrated diagram depicts the plan of site of a farm which is called Beechwoof farm in year 1950 and in the second part the site of a farm is renovated and shows how it looks today' is overly convoluted and grammatically clunky. Other errors include passive voice issues ('were same only a small change is happend') and incorrect prepositions ('In the side of the farm shop'). Frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader, fitting the Band 5.0 descriptors.
