Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The candidate attempts to cover the main features of the maps, noting the changes between 1950 and today. However, there are significant misinterpretations and inaccurate descriptions of the visual data. For instance, the text states that 'the barn is replace by a holiday cottages', whereas the maps show the original barn remains in the south while holiday cottages were newly built further north, and the sheep area was replaced by a camping field and solar panels rather than 'fully destroyed'. The overview is brief and contains grammatical errors, lacking a clear summary of the overall spatial transformation. Furthermore, details such as the location of the farm shop are confused. Consequently, the task response falls under Band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is divided into paragraphs, but the logical flow is disrupted by repetitive connectors such as 'In addition' used at the beginning of consecutive sentences. Referencing is sometimes unclear, as seen in phrases like 'the fruit trees, soft fruits and vegetables are remain, but the track beside that is change with road'. Paragraphing is attempted to separate the introduction, overview, and body details, but the lack of smooth transitions and faulty cohesive devices limit the overall coherence of the text, placing it at a Band 5 level.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently impeded by word choice and spelling errors (e.g., 'aminities', 'contruct', 'situtate', 'portation'). While the candidate attempts some topic-specific vocabulary related to the maps, such as 'farm shop', 'camping field', and 'solar panels', the range is limited and inadequate for a higher band. Frequent errors in word forms and spelling cause noticeable difficulty for the reader, aligning with the criteria for Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writing exhibits a very limited range of structures with frequent grammatical errors. Simple sentences predominate, and attempts at complex structures are consistently flawed, such as 'the farm is expect to undergo crucial changes' (passive voice error) and 'the barn located at south-west which is contruct with holiday cottages'. Errors in tense, subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the sheep was fully destroyed and it converts'), and word formation appear throughout the text. These errors frequently impede communication and place the response in Band 4.5, rounded to Band 5.
