Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The candidate attempts to cover the main features of the maps, noting the transformation of the sheep area into solar panels, a camping field, and parking spaces, alongside the addition of holiday cottages and a farm shop. However, the response suffers from several inaccuracies and omissions regarding the spatial layout. For instance, the text claims that 'holiday cottages are built with farmhouse and chickens region,' whereas the cottages are actually located further north near the new eastern road. Additionally, the overview is somewhat disjointed and repeats details instead of providing a concise summary of the most striking macro-level changes, such as the diversification from pure agriculture to tourism and renewable energy. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed in terms of precise feature selection and spatial reporting, placing it at a Band 5.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organised into three brief paragraphs, including an introduction and two body sections. While there is a basic attempt to structure the comparison, the progression of ideas lacks clarity and flow. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or repetitively; phrases like 'In the north-east area of sheep is substituted for...' demonstrate faulty syntax within transitional structures. Pronoun referencing and substitution are occasionally confusing, such as 'one is on the north-east side along with solar panels and other is on the north-west side of camping fields.' Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs is frequently mechanical and stilted, resulting in a performance that fits the Band 5.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for a basic description of the maps, incorporating terms such as 'solar panels', 'camping field', 'holiday cottages', and 'farm shop'. However, the range is limited and repetitive, and there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'is substituted for' used intransitively ('area of sheep is substituted for solar panels') and 'are at the same placed'. The student attempts less common items like 'diversification' or 'transformation' implicitly through topic vocabulary, but frequent word-choice errors and imprecise phrasing constrain the score to a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are numerous grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('The road and river has', 'roadways and river are at the same placed'), awkward passive constructions ('are constructed', 'is substituted for'), and missing articles or prepositions. Many complex or extended sentences become tangled and error-prone, which places a strain on the reader. Because errors are frequent and recurrent across basic and complex structures, this performance aligns best with a Band 5.0.
