The plans below show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.



 

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The plans show Beechwood Farm in 1950 and today. The two maps illustrate the changes that ave taken place at Beechwood Farm from 1950 to the present day.

Overall, the farm has been transformed from a purely agricultural site into a multifunctional site with tourism and energy sources, although some farming areas remain.

In 1950, the farm was largely dedicated to farming. The nothern part of the site was a large feild for sheep. In the west, there were three smaller feilds for fruit trees, soft fruits and vegetables arrange from north to south. A system of tracks connected the feilds to a central triangle. To the east of the tracks were a barn, a farmhouse and a chicken coop, with a river forming a curved boundary to the south and west. A main road with a bridge over the river ran along the north-western edges.

Today, the layout has changed significantly. The sheep feild has been replaced by a camping feild with a large tree, two tents and solar panel farm to its east. Two car parks have been added, one near the main road entrance and another next to the new holiday cottages, which are located where the old barn used to be. The barn itself has been relocated to the south-west, near the vegetables feild. The former tracks have been upgraded to a proper road and a new farm shop has been bulit just south of the main road, next to the fruit trees.

In summary, the fruit trees, soft fruits, vegetables, farmhouse an chickens area have remained in their orignal positions, aas have the river and the main road.
