Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover the main changes between the 1950 and current maps of Beechwood Farm, mentioning the addition of the farm shop, camping field, solar panels, and holiday cottages. However, the task achievement is limited by several inaccuracies and misreadings of the visual data. For example, the student states that the farm shop is built 'at the same place of Fruit trees in North side', whereas the visual data shows the fruit trees remain in the western area while the farm shop is positioned nearby. Additionally, the description of spatial locations and the sequence of changes is sometimes confusing and lacks a fully developed overview. This corresponds to a Band 5 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organised into four paragraphs, including an introduction and a concluding summary. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and confusing references, such as 'Turning Towards the rest of details' and 'after shifted the barn to South side'. Cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or used inaccurately, and the paragraphing does not fully support a clear progression of ideas. This places the response in the Band 5 category for cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with several awkward collocations and lexical errors. Examples include 'changes take place in Beechwood farm since 1950 to till date' and 'after demolished the sheep area'. While the student attempts some less common vocabulary items such as 'constructed', 'demolished', and 'holiday cottages', inaccurate word choice and lexical control restrict the range. Communication is occasionally strained by these limitations, reflecting a Band 5 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response displays a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple and occasionally faulty complex forms. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'changes take place' instead of 'changes that took place', 'may infer' instead of 'can be inferred', and 'which jointed to the road' instead of 'which is joined to the road'. These persistent errors cause some difficulty for the reader, matching the Band 5 descriptors.
