IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The plans below show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.



 

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The map illustrates the changes that have taken place on a farm, showing its layout and facilities available before and after the development.

Overall, the farm has undergone significant development, with several new facilities being introduced, including a farm shop, Camping field, solar panels, holiday cottage and parking areas. However, the agricultural areas, river, farmhouse and barn have remained largely unchanged.

Looking at the western and central part of the farm, the areas used for agriculture remained largely unchanged. Fruit trees are still located in the north-western part, while the soft fruits and vegetables remain in the central and south-western areas. The river also continues to run along the sourthern and western sides of the farm. However, some changes have been made to the road system.

The most noticeable changes can be seen in the northern and eastern parts of the farm. The former sheep area has been converted into a camping field, solar panels and a parking area. In addition holiday cottages have been constructed in the eastern part of the farm. The farmhouse, chickens and barn have remained in their original locations.
