The plans below show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 7.5)
The two plans illustrate the changes that have taken place at Beechwood Farm between 1950 and the present day.
Overall, the farm has been considerably modernised, with several new facilities added for visitors and renewable energy, while some agricultural areas have remained unchanged.
In 1950, the farm mainly consisted of fields for fruit trees, soft fruits, vegetables and sheep. There was also a farmhouse, a barn and a chicken area. A track connected the different parts of the farm, while a river surrounded the southern and western sides.
Today, the fruit trees, soft-fruit and vegetable fields remain in the same locations. However, the sheep area has been replaced by a large camping field with trees and tents. The old tracks have also been converted into roads. A farm shop and two parking areas have been added near the main road. In addition, the barn has been relocated, while holiday cottages have been built beside the farmhouse. Finally, solar panels have been installed in the north-east of the farm.
