The plans below show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.



 

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The two maps illustrate the development of Beechwood farm that took place between 1950 and the present day.

Overall, the farm had experienced substantial redevelopment, the most significant changes were the transformation of agricultural land to a camping area. There were certain improvements made to the transport facilities as well. However, locations of orchard, vegetable garden and farmhouse remained unchanged till date.

In 1950 the north of the farm was majorly dominated by sheepfold, which converted to a camping field. In the vicinity of the camping field and the road a parking lot is constructed. Moreover, adjacent to the camping area, few solar pannels are installed with an additional vehical park area along the road which was initially a track.

Fewer changes occured on the western side of the beechwood farm with vegetable gardens and orchards occupying their original positions with an addition of a farm shop developed, in the same area of orchards. A barn is constructed in the centre, of the road network. Holiday villas are built replacing the barn on the east. On the contrary, the farmhouse and chicken coop remain in their original positions.
