The plans below show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.



 

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The diagrams provided illustrate Beechwood Farm in 1950 and today. The most noticeable feature is that the farm has undergone significant changes, especially in the area to the north of the pathway.

In 1950, a major portion of the site was occupied by sheep, opposite the plantation area, which had fruit trees, soft fruits, and vegetables. Alongside the river, to the west, there was an area dedicated to chickens, a farmhouse, and a barn. Moreover, the pathway at the centre of the site is a track, supposedly unpaved.

Over the years, dramatic transformations have been made to the site, with the division of the sheep farm into two parts: a camping site and a solar panel area, each having a separate parking facility. Also, the pathway is now a concrete road that extends to a barn to the south. The former barn is converted into holiday cottages. However, the plantation areas, farmhouse, chicken shed still remains same. But, it must be noted that a farm shop is introduced in the fruit trees areas.

To summarise, Beechwood farm has experienced several transitions from 1950 to today.
